A Radar Level Meter (also known as a Radar Level Transmitter) is a non-contact level measurement instrument that uses high-frequency microwave radar signals to continuously measure the level of liquids, slurries, or fluids. Radar technology emits microwave pulses and measures the distance by calculating the time it takes for the signal to reflect off the liquid surface and return to the sensor.
High-frequency radar (e.g., 26 GHz) offers millimeter accuracy, excellent immunity to environmental conditions like temperature changes, vapor, foam, dust, or pressure, and can operate reliably for extended ranges up to 30 m — ideal for tanks, reservoirs, open channels, rivers, and industrial vessels.
Radar level transmitters emit microwave energy toward the surface of the liquid. When this energy reflects back, the receiver calculates the distance by measuring the signal’s time-of-flight. The shorter time indicates a higher level and vice-versa. Because microwave radar isn’t affected by temperature, pressure, foam, dust or vapor, it’s highly reliable in harsh process environments.
